FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 14th, 2023
Vancouver, British Columbia – The ALS Society of British Columbia is thrilled to announce a significant donation of $30,000.00 from the Vancouver Firefighter Charities’ ALS “Shoot for the Cure” 2023 fundraising event and the Vancouver Firefighter’s Hockey Club. This generous contribution was presented to the ALS Society of British Columbia during a heartfelt cheque presentation at Vancouver Fire Hall No. 14, located in the vibrant Hastings Sunrise area. The ALS Society of British Columbia extends its deepest gratitude to Vancouver Firefighters, The Vancouver Firefighter Charities, Vancouver Firefighter’s Hockey Club, sponsors, and all the supporters who have played an instrumental role in this remarkable fundraising effort.
Together, these dedicated organizations have been steadfast supporters of the ALS Society of British Columbia, having raised over $400,000.00 since the inception of their partnership in 2003. Their unwavering commitment to our cause is a testament to their compassion and dedication to making a difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by ALS.
The ALS “Shoot for the Cure” fundraiser, organized by Vancouver Firefighters Bobby Tammen, Jake Gobillot and Jason Phillips, in collaboration with the Vancouver Firefighter Charities, has become a beloved tradition. Approximately 300 firefighters, friends, and family gather for a sporting clay shooting challenge each spring, with 100% of the proceeds from this event generously donated to the ALS Society of British Columbia. The event raises critical funds and fosters a sense of community and solidarity among all participants.
Vancouver Firefighter Charities (VFC) comprises over 840 of Vancouver’s dedicated firefighters, who go above and beyond their duties by volunteering off-duty to improve our local communities. The funds raised by VFC are instrumental in supporting various programs in the City of Vancouver and charitable organizations. Through the Firefighter Payroll Donations Program, these selfless firefighters donate over $180,000.00 annually, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to giving back and making a positive impact.
The ALS Society of British Columbia would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to Vancouver Firefighters Bobby Tammen, Jake Gobillot, Jason Phillips and Darren Ferris, Vancouver Firefighter’s Hockey Club President, for their exceptional leadership and dedication to the fundraisers. Their tireless efforts have played a pivotal role in raising funds and awareness for ALS, bringing us one step closer to finding a cure.
In addition to the Vancouver Firefighters, we would also like to thank the Vancouver Firefighter Charities, Vancouver Firefighter’s Hockey Club, and all the sponsors, family members, and friends who have contributed to this remarkable achievement. Your support has a profound and lasting impact on our mission to improve the lives of those living with ALS and their families.
The ALS Society of British Columbia remains committed to its vision of a future without ALS. With the incredible support of people and organizations like the Vancouver Firefighters, The Vancouver Firefighter Charities, and the Vancouver Firefighter’s Hockey Club, we continue to strive toward this goal. Together, we are making progress, and we believe that a cure for ALS will one day be found.
