1) Identify hazards.

2) Check accessibility, do evacuation drills, practice walking routes that may be dark in bad weather.

3) Build an emergency bag.

4) Register with your local first responders to let them know a family member is living with ALS or PLS and your address.

5) Participate in safety procedures.

6) Identify where to assemble, and

7) Do safe room settings.

With the current risks of floods and fires in British Columbia and the Yukon, we are sharing the “Disaster Preparedness Quick Guide – Guidance for Persons with Mobility Limitations and Caregivers” developed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB).

The International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations – Emergency Preparedness Toolkit for PALS & CALS

The ALS Society of British Columbia, in partnership with the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations, has developed a document called “The International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations – Emergency Preparedness Toolkit for PALS & CALS.” Everyone’s situation is unique, and it is, therefore, important to plan and prepare accordingly. This document has been created to aid individuals living with ALS/MND and their caregivers in being prepared in the event of an emergency.
