Bill Erving was diagnosed with ALS in 2016, Bill is one of our first patients to use the new OBI Robotic feeding device here in here, he calls it his new best friends. The technology has enabled him to keep being independent when eating. Click here to watch a video of Bill demonstrating the OBI.

My involvement with the ALS Society began in 2012 when I was first diagnosed.  Prior to my diagnosis,I lived a very active independent life. Since 2012 the Equipment Loan Program has supported my life by loaning me equipment to aid my mobility. A walker, wheelchair, and now an electric wheelchair.  This equipment has helped me fight through the isolation that living with a disability brought. I can visit with family and friends, I can attend birthday parties, and gatherings ,pre-Covid.  As my physical abilities have declined, my needs for specialized equipment have increased, bath seats, transfer devices, an adaptive keyboard for my computer, lift chairs, iv poles, pressure mattresses, hospital bed, etc .  Looking back over the last 10 years I can’t imagine how I would have afforded each piece of equipment on my own.

On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, the ALS Society of BC is participating in GivingTuesday, an annual giving movement that has been driven by individuals, charities, businesses and communities across Canada and in countries around the world. Just as Black Friday and Cyber Monday kicks off the holiday shopping season, GivingTuesday is the opening day of the giving season. The global day of generosity, GivingTuesday unites millions of Canadians to support the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.

As a participating charity of GivingTuesday, we are requesting your support for our Equipment Loan Program. Our goal is to raise $150,000.

Please spread the word and join us for a global day of giving. Help us show the power of hope to people living with ALS in BC.
