BC Women’s NICU Team Donation to ALS Society of BC in support of Camille Betts and her family.

“Norm Betts passed away from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (aka ALS, Lou Gehrigs Disease) in May 2021. ALS is a disease that causes gradual paralysis of the limbs and body, causing the person to loose their ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and eventually breathe.

ALS is not contagious. There are no effective treatments for ALS and no cure. Approximately 80 per cent of people with ALS die within two to five years of being diagnosed.

The ALS Society of BC was an amazing support throughout Norm’s illness. They provided our family with support and access to the equipment needed to keep him at home. They have also started an initiative called Project Hope with the goal of bringing clinical trials to BC. “
