Why we supported ALS BC at the 2023 BMO Vancouver Marathon

“In January we received devastating news that completely rocked our family. Dad was diagnosed with ALS. This was the worst possible diagnosis, and our worst fear… but we are fighting back. Dad’s strength and resilience through everything has been incredible. In true John McCoach fashion, he is tackling this challenge like he did the Ironman; there is no stopping him when he has a goal in mind. He is spending his time with his family and friends and getting as much joy out of life as he can. Nothing seems more fitting than getting a team together to run for the cause.”

Are you up for a challenge that can make a real difference in the world?

We are looking for passionate, dedicated runners who share our vision of a world without Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS). And you can be a part of it!

Join our community of runners at the 2024 BMO Vancouver Marathon by signing up as a Charity Runner for the ALS Society of BC. By raising funds to support our programs and services, you will be advocating for and supporting those living with ALS and PLS in British Columbia and the Yukon.

You can take part in the Marathon as an individual runner or as part of a team. And if you have little ones, they can join the 2.5KM Kids Run on Saturday, May 4, at 11 am. The Marathon, Half Marathon, and 8KM races are on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

But wait, there’s more! You don’t have to be a runner to support our cause. Anyone can donate to our charity. So, why not donate when registering or invite your family and friends to donate after registering to make a difference in the lives of those living with ALS and PLS? Let’s make the world a better place, and let’s do it together!

All Charity Runner registrants will receive:

  • 20% refund on your registration fee after reaching the $400.00 fundraising minimum.
  • Exclusive new tech tee or option to opt for a Green Bib
  • Finisher medal for all in-person races
  • Option to purchase medals for virtual races
  • Two-day Health, Sports & Lifestyle Expo
  • Brooks Running Bonus Prize for combo races
  • Results, leaderboard, and more!
