3rd Annual Steve Huska Memorial Golf Tournament and ALS Society of BC Fundraiser Raises Thousands for ALS Patient Support and Research

Cobble Hill, Vancouver Island, British Columbia – The picturesque community of Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island played host to the 3rd Annual Steve Huska Memorial Golf Tournament and ALS Society of BC fundraiser on Saturday, June 24th. Organized by Steve Huska’s family in collaboration with the Arbutus Ridge Golf Club, the event brought together golf enthusiasts, friends, and family of all ages and skill levels for a day of golf and fundraising in memory of a beloved individual.
The tournament, which has become a cherished tradition, not only honored the memory of Steve Huska but also aimed to support the ALS Society of BC in their tireless efforts to find a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Over the past three years, this remarkable event has managed to raise over $22,000.00 for ALS BC, providing much-needed resources to aid those affected by this devastating disease.
While the official figures are yet to be confirmed, early estimates suggest that the 3rd Annual Steve Huska Memorial Golf Tournament and ALS Society of BC Fundraiser has successfully generated approximately $9,000.00 to $9,500.00. These numbers reflect the growing support and increased participation witnessed year after year, underlining the generosity and commitment of the community to make a positive impact.
The ALS Society of BC extends its heartfelt gratitude to Judy Huska, the Arbutus Ridge Golf Club, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and all the enthusiastic golfers who made this event a resounding success. Their dedication and selflessness have undoubtedly contributed to advancing ALS research, patient support, programs and services.
This year’s tournament showcased the remarkable spirit of camaraderie and competitive sportsmanship as participants engaged in a friendly round of golf, followed by an enjoyable dinner. About ALS BC: The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Society of British Columbia (ALS BC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Andrew Eisen, ALS patients and family members to meet the physical and emotional needs of people living with ALS and their caregivers. Our mission is to cure ALS through funding research, while advocating for and supporting people living with ALS.
About ALS: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder that affects the person’s motor neurons that carry messages to the muscles resulting in weakness and wasting in arms, legs, mouth, throat and elsewhere. Typically, the person is immobilized within two to five years of the initial diagnosis. There is no known cause or cure yet, but there is hope through the ALS Society of BC.
