Trail’s Pam Caron Receives Prestigious ALS Event of the Year Award
Recipient of the 2023 ALS Society of BC Move To Cure ALS Event of The Year Award
– Pam Caron from Trail, BC.
RICHMOND, British Columbia – The purpose of this award is to recognize an outstanding “Move” for ALS. The award recognizes and celebrates outstanding contributions and achievement in developing the “Move” event to its fullest potential by any or a combination of:
- Bringing new or innovative additions to the Walk program – 25% of ranking.
- Building local community awareness and participation – 25% of ranking.
- Achieving extraordinary fundraising results over a period of a year – 50% of ranking.
- Can be awarded in consecutive years as volunteers change from year to year.
This was the first year Pam Caron coordinated the Move to Cure ALS – West Kootenay. Pam’s inspiration is her friend Aladina Sheets who was diagnosed with ALS. Pam involved the entire business community of Trail, receiving numerous donations of product, cash, and donations in-kind. As a result, no expenses were incurred. Bounce Radio Kootenays provided free of charge a $2,700 promotional package. The day included live music and BBQ. 353 Movers participated, raising $66,943. This was the largest turnout for the West Kootenay event.
“A very special friend of ours was diagnosed with ALS in March of 2022. That spring we started up “Team Aladina” to show Ala we are all in this together. Winning this award shows what an amazing, generous, and loving community we have!” said Pam Caron.
“I had the pleasure of attending the Move to Cure ALS – West Kootenay held in Trail. Upon my arrival at Gyro Park, I was welcomed by a huge crowd of people all wearing the signature purple Move to Cure ALS t-shirt. There were many volunteers pitching in at registration, the BBQ and on stage. Everything was extremely well organized. I met Aladina Sheets who had a huge team of people out to support her. It was a wonderful afternoon for all who attended. Thank you to Pam for stepping up to coordinate this amazing event and thank you to the people of the West Kootenay region for supporting it.” said Wendy Toyer, Executive Director of the ALS Society of BC.
Pam Caron’s award was presented at a “Celebration of Volunteerism and Service” ceremony hosted by the ALS Society of BC on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, in Richmond, BC.

About ALS BC: The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Society of British Columbia (ALS BC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Andrew Eisen, ALS patients and family members to meet the physical and emotional needs of people living with ALS and their caregivers. Our mission is to cure ALS through funding research, while advocating for and supporting people living with ALS.
About ALS: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder that affects the person’s motor neurons that carry messages to the muscles resulting in weakness and wasting in arms, legs, mouth, throat and elsewhere. Typically, the person is immobilized within two to five years of the initial diagnosis. There is no known cause or cure yet, but there is hope through the ALS Society of BC.
